Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking victims, is in serious condition after an accident involving a school bus in Australia, her family said Tuesday.
“Virginia thanks everyone for the outpouring of love and support. She is overwhelmed with gratitude. Today she remains in serious condition while receiving medical care,” the family’s statement said.
The bus hit the car Giuffre was riding in on March 24 in Western Australia, according to her family. On Monday, Giuffre’s representative, Dini von Mueffling, said, “Virginia has been in a serious accident and is receiving medical care in the hospital.”
Giuffre was “banged up and bruised,” but initially went home after the accident, her family said. “Virginia’s condition worsened and she was admitted to the hospital.”
In a post on Instagram on Sunday, Giuffre said she is in kidney failure and doctors gave her only days to live.
“I’ve gone into kidney renal failure, they’ve given me four days to live, transferring me to a specialist hospital in urology,” her post says.
Giuffre alluded to the crash in her post.
“I think it [sic] important to note that when a school bus driver comes at you driving 110km as we were slowing for a turn that no matter what your car is made of it might as well be a tin can,” she wrote.
Giuffre thought she was sharing the post on her private Facebook page, according to her family.
When the accident occurred, “police were called but said that there was no one available to come to the scene,” Giuffre’s family said.
“The school bus driver had a bus full of distraught children and left the scene to get them back, saying he would file a police report, which he did later,” the family said.
Giuffre has alleged Epstein sexually trafficked her to Britain’s Prince Andrew and others. Prince Andrew has denied those claims.
Epstein, a convicted sex offender, was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges in 2019. A month after his arrest, he was found dead in his cell at a Manhattan prison. His death was ruled a suicide.
